Undergraduate Recruitment

In the most recent edition of the Cal Forester, Russ Forsburg wrote that re-cruitment of students into the undergraduate majors was one of CAF's main goals for the coming year. As a result, there is now a person dedicated to do just that. In January, I was honored to take on the intense tasks of redesigning the Forest Science website (see http://forestry.berkeley.edu), producing new brochures and pamphlets, and setting up an ongoing program to help increase the number of students in the forestry and resource management majors. One of my goals is to begin an "Alumni Ambassador" program that provides an informational package, when requested, to Alumni who plan to visit other schools. The package would include new brochures (see enclosed) and pamphlets, a poster, a video, Cal Foresters paraphernalia, and a letter explaining the importance of recruitment into the programs at Berkeley.

For those who do not know me, I just grad-uated from Berkeley with a major in Resource Management and have applied to graduate school in Urban Forestry at various schools across the country. I was a Teaching Assistant at Forestry Camp last summer and was fortunate to meet many Alumni there as well as at the CAF Alumni banquet in October. I have also been active in the Forestry Club and was its president this past semester. My commitment to this program runs deep, and I am enthusiastic about being an active member of CAF for years to come.

While in this job I want to build the foundation for recruitment and outreach that can continue long after I leave. For without a student body, there is no program. If any of you would like to send advice or comments my way, please contact me through e-mail or by mail to 145 Mulford Hall. I look forward to working with Alumni and friends, and I thank the CAF for contributing to the cost of creating this position.
